Have posted before and have had so much help so here I am on the food topic. My horse originally was on pony nuts and hay when I got him ( very light work) and when I moved him to the livery my friend suggested calm and condition for him as it was a good food. Ever since I find his attention span and general attitude has changed. Very spooky, and silly. And walks out as if going to war!
For those of you who helped me on other topics, we are progressing well together in certain 'issues' but he seems v different from when his feed was different originally.
Or is this rubbish and he is just being who he is?
He is in light work and is a very good doer. Do you think a different feed may help? Fibre cubes or so? Thank you!

Why did your friend recommend calm and condition? It is essentially a conditioning feed as its high energy. So quite why they would recommend it for a horse in light work I'm not sure.

Nothing wrong with cheapo pony nuts. Only thing you might want to watch out for is are you feeding the recommended amount for him to get all required vits and mins

I'd stop the calm and condition immediately! No good dooer needs that and it can send some horses loopy! It doesnt sound like yours needs hard feed. I'd feed a handful of straw chaff or similar with a powder mineral balancer just to cover all bases :)

Wow thank you. glad I'm not barking up the wrong tree!
Not sure why she suggested- probably as her horses are on it maybe, but me being a newbie followed suit!
Ok so another look at pony nuts or just some chaff and mineral balancer....any recommendation of brand?

I use Progressive Earths Pro Mineral. Works out about £10 a month and covers the basics. you can get higher spec stuff off them and other brands, but hes fit and healthy and looks amazing so cant be missing much! I did notice a big jump in hoof growth when I put him back on it though, not that he needs it really!

No no he's not underweight at all. I just went with the wrong recommendation as was just told it was a good food, however after much reading and coming on here, it looks to be the wrong one for him!
