Can anyone suggest a low energy (starch/sugar) hard food that has a good broad spectrum mineral / vitamin content for my 3/4 TB mare, 12 yrs old, in foal (very early) and barely ridden. Out 24/7 on long but poor grass. She suffers from flies so I bring her in every day to give her some hard food to put fly supplement in and I would also like to make sure she gets everything she needs nutrionally wise without the energy.

Any type of hard food seems to give her springs in her feet and the devil in her mind when she is ridden so she doesnt need anything other than supplement and which I can mix fly supplement in. All the calming feeds have made no difference (although someone has said Winergy Lo Engergy is good), Alfafa is a big no no and I dont think any of the other 'chops' give the broad vit/min supplement I want to give her. Any suggestions?? I guess the other option is supplement mixed in with something like chaff??

I fed my mare safe and sound in her early pregnancy, she wasn't in work so it was ideal as its very low in starch and she loved it, great for mixing in supplements.

I'd go for winergy equilibrium low as well, then you can move her onto the growth version in the last 3 months and while she's got foaly at foot. fab stuff, wont send her doolally in the slightest. can't recommend it enough!
