Im having issues with riding my horse out, shes been on box rest a while and has been angelic considering.
But I was thinking of trying a calming supplement until I can get her going again.
Can anyone recommend one, (or ones to avoid) and are there any that arent too expensive??
Thanks

Equine America do one called Magnitude which is about £18 a pot I think. Lasts for ages and does work. It's Magnesium Oxide based I believe, which is the main ingredient of most calmers.

Equine America is supposed to be very good and a few people I know have recommended it, however, it didn't work on one of my horses that I used it on but found that Global Herbs Supercalm worked a treat.....although it took a couple of days to take full effect.

Good thing is though, I no longer need it, my horse is now totally chilled out - apart from the walk to the field

I have my mare on Prosportive Chill and its the best thing I've ever done I even think there are another 4 on my yard using it. Also Magics calmer is meant to be good but my mare wouldnt touch it. If your worried about eventually sitting on her Oxyshot is amazing as well. I give that when I hack out it works within 10 mins rather than an hour like others.

Its that thats the problem. Shes absolutely perfect in the stable/on the yard. But I'm trying to build up her exercise, we're doing about half an hour hacking (cant go in the school yet) and I'm fed up of getting off half way to walk home with a prancing, snorting beast lol.

Hoping a calmer will just get her to walk nicely

My Tb is currently on box rest and so far has been a superstar - but he is just about reaching the end of his tolerance and getting a bit fed up.

On his off days I give him a tube of instant calmer (instant magic) and it does work.

If its hacking your worried about I would definitely say give a shot of oxyshot. I use it every time ragardless of how shes behaved in the stable. Dont get me wrong shes brilliant never tanks, bucks, rears or anything but when she gets scared she plants herself and there is no convincing her to move regardless if we're 2 minutes from home or 20 minutes, with the oxy shot shes a lot more compliant and chilled out. I have managed 7 mile hacks and even crossed a motorway bridge, but I wouldnt even consider doing it without oxyshot.
