My 17 year old mare is in near perfect shape - just the right weight/covering, but her coat is not brilliant. It lacks shine and feels a little coarse and looks a bit stary. She seems full of energy, but I would like to try to improve her coat - she has always shone in the summer.

She is out 24x7 in a pretty well eaten paddock, but I let her into a paddock with LOADS of grass for a couple of hours a day on her own as she doesnt hold her condition as well as the other 2 horse. They are permenantly in the well eaten paddock as they are v fat and look like seals they are so shiny

Any suggestions for something that will help her coat, but not necessarily add too much weight/fizz?

Baileys outshine is meant to be good although it costs a bomb, you only feed a teeny bit for coat shine though

Thanks! She will no doubt be happy to have some hard feed as well as her extra grazing. I am going to order some Baileys Outshine and then once she is back to being a bit shinier will try to maintain it with Veg oil....seems like a good compromise! (The other 2 will be green with envy no doubt poor loves, but they are such porkers compared with her!)

Buddys build up mix seems to make a difference to his coats, seems to get an extra shine to in when i feed it him. Though he gets hardly any at the moment.

No dont think its worms, they are all probably due for being wormed again in the next few weeks, but definitely not overdue at the moment

I can't say what magic Topspec senior has done for my old girl and her condition

Or for that matter, lo-cal is fantastic for my fatty

I've also found cod liver oil is fab for their coat

(bought some for Star's arthritis, she threw her feed on the floor, snorted, sulked and refused to eat it

) so I gave it to Be for as long as the bottle lasted, a few months, and she had a fab winter coat
