Hi everyone! I'm in Australia, and we have had the Cheval Liberte floats here for a few years now, although I only discovered them recently. I saw 2 CL's at a training day recently and was really impressed at what I saw, but need to dig much deeper.

We have many reputable horse float/trailer manufacturers here but as I live very close to the sea, I am inclined to not get a traditional steel trailer next time. The trouble in Australia now is that many companies are importing the body of the floats from China and made of Chinese steel, which is (rightly or wrongly, I'm not certain) not nearly as well regarded as Australian made steel. It's becoming hard to know for certain where and what a new float here is really made of and where it came from.

What do people think of the Cheval Libertes these days in the UK/Europe, and how do they go aging, after a few years? If I buy a new float, I really want it to last. I read that they are now made in Poland, which seems to be viewed with some suspicion along the lines of how Chinese-made are viewed here - am I reading that right?

My other query about them is with regard to the windows. What I call "the European look", with no large front window, but 2 small windows to the side, is a bit alien to us over here. How do you find horses travel with these windows with various makes you have over there? As horses see well to the side anyway, do you find they actually enjoy using the windows set up like this?

Any feedback much appreciated...

I have one and I absolutely love it, as does my horse (previous bad traveller after having a trailering accident). Mine is an older model (plastic not alu body) but is still going strong, looks great and the biggest plus is that my horse travels so well in it I think due to the superior suspension and general light/airiness of it, it's also quite a quiet trailer compared to some rattlers I have heard! I have the slant load which has a storage area at the front so can't comment re front window but do have 2 good sized side windows each side which horse seems to like looking out of, and they open a small way for airflow which is a plus. If I ever needed a new trailer I would definitely go for another Cheval.

I have a single trailer from 2007, so again plastic body. Super trailer with lots of space, horse loads every time and travels well. Have replaced the wooden floor with aluminium and done all 4 brakes. Otherwise its still going strong.
I believe mine was made in Poland, though this is not an issue for me as it means it was still subjected to European standards etc.
I like the side windows (one either side of pointed trailer nose) as I can see my boys head through the wing mirrors. He likes looking around as we travel. As Merlod says the windows open a little which is great. There is also a roof vent which I tend to leave open as my horse likes lots of air.

I have one from early the 2000s. So far I'm happy with it, my pony travels very well in it and it's apparently very easy to tow.
