my mare is 29 this year and has gradually lost almost all her molars over the last 12 months (has regular dental checks with EDT), she's not willing to eat hay/hayledge now and is on a forage based feed diet anyway, ie sugar beet/alfalfa pellets (soaked) and was having reddy grass type chaff but i now need to add more fibre into her 'feeds' as a hay replacer. i've found a simple hay chaff (chopped up hay) with no mollases added which she appears to have tucked into tonight but dont have much idea how much to give her??? I've also had a suggestion of adding in some brewers yeast and micronized linseed, anyone had any experience with feeding these, and again how much?? She's 15h and weighs around 450-500 kg

gold star for getting this far :)

Hi. our old boy is 32 and also has very few teeth. i feed him balanced oldster and hi fibre cubes mashed with hot water. the oldster is designed for older horses to get the nutrients they need easily. Not sure on quantities foe your size lad but their helpline is great. Cola has 3 feeds a day and picks at hay but if yours won't eat hay I'd stick with the hay chaff or chat to balanced.

thank you both, will have a look at balanced feeds, she currently get NAF general purpose vits and mins on top of her unmollased feeds of sugar beet and alfalfa pellets, both soaked. she ate half a tub of the hay chaff last night, she has the largest tub trug bucket and i filled it to the top last night with a mix of the above, i left her tucking into it like she'd never been fed before :) she had left half a bucket of it this morning and tucked into some more tonight when i left her so hopefully she's ok with this for now.

2 oldies on my yard are fed soaked grass nuts and a feed called Ready Mash Soft and Soak which has a range of about 3 products to choose from. The top one of the the range which I think is the Extra has extra goodness in for oldies and smells gorgeous when mixed with warm water. They also get Mollichaff and Graze On grass. One is 32 the other is 36, the 36yr old has hardly any teeth atall left now and looks great...
