It is many years since I had a dog so rather rusty.

I fetched my new puppy from the breeder yesterday. She is 9 weeks old now and the breeder said she is having 2 feeds a day, about 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. And treats during the day for "come" etc.

This doesn't sound enough to me.

She is on a tinned puppy food with some puppy biscuits.

What do you think?

Also, she was put to bed at 10.00 pm and let out at 7.00 a.m. That also sounds a long time!

At that age I would have a pup on at least 3 if not 4 feeds a day of a good quality complete feed. Also whereas leaving a pup that long at night isn't going to do any harm it certainly isn't going to help getting her house trained. I could be wrong but sounds like a breeder who couldn't be bothered .:(

I thought she should be having more feeds, although I will defend the breeder as she cares for them a lot and I wouldn't say she doesn't bother, it is probably just the way she has always done it.

Sounds like I will have to get up earlier as well!

We had B on 3 feeds a day at that age.

Did the puppy sleep through last night? Was there any mess left?

B would not have slept for that long / held for the toilet. We have always done last toilet trips at 12 /1am and when she was tiny she was taken outside at 4.30 - 5.30 then back to bed for a bit and up again at 8. By 12 weeks she would / could hold from 12/1am till 7/8am which is the longest she needs to hold overnight.

Hope that made sense! Also we need pictures!

Thanks for the input. I will ask the vet about how long it is reasonable for them to "hold on " at night time, and other things! She has been wet in the morning.
