Feeding a 3 yr old

I've just bought a 3yr old cobby type, still bum high, he looked fine at the viewing, but next to my brat pack, he looks out of condition.
Any suggestions welcome as I think he could do with more than just chaff and easy beet (just for meds) that the others get, they are on a very low sugar diet and I would prefer to have him low sugar as well if possible, he doesn't need weight gain, just something to help him grow to his full potential.

I'd just make sure he is on a full daily ration of a good feed balancer containing organic selenium (selenium yeast), as deficiencies in copper and zinc are common across a lot of the UK, and selenium is likely to be deficient in about 70% of the UK.

They can look fabulous and yet still be deficient in minerals, so it really is worth investing in a good balancer.

The one I'm choosing to use currently is Blue Chip Original.

As a three year old he should be on the same rations as an adult horse, personally if he were mine, I'd just be sticking to a good fibre diet, with a vit and mineral supplement, giving a good wormer and letting dr green do its work.

Thanks for your replies, Queenbee, would a mineral lick give him what he needs, he was licking at a salt lick in the barn yesterday, it's now too old to be useful, so I'll replace it with a fresh one, mine have never touched it in two years.
