Just wondered what you feed for extra energy in winter? I am just talking a bit of extra oomph not lots :) My girl has been on happy hoof and pink powder. Last year she was on TS lite feed balancer, but she will be on happy hoof and pink powder this winter. Just wondering what to add as a little extra. I was thinking perhaps cool cubes or such??

Is she over weight now? Last winter I clipped winston just neck and belly and left him turned out no rug ( mean mum) , he was on a handful of happy hoof and haylage twice daily, he was a different horse loosing a bit of weight.

No she is not overweight, she has been on the track system all summer with lots of work and a friend of mine said that she is currently looking the best she has ever seen her.

Its not so much watching her weight as she is looking pretty good as I say. I am just looking ahead to winter and wondering what little something extra I can add to give her a little bit more energy. Her weight is good so I am not looking to loose weight at all, just something to add to her feed to give more or a little more energy.

Yes in winter she always lacks energy when just on a powder supplement and say happy hoof/alfa lite. I put her on TS lite last year and it made a difference but now I have put all 3 of mine on pink powder so obv she cant have the TS too. I am going to put my youngster on cool cubes or similar so wondered if this would be ok for the cob as well, or not!

We have found Naf Ener-G very effective with our cob. You don't have to use it all the time - we just use it in the week or so before an event where we know we need a bit more.

Our lad is fed year round becuase he is competed quite heavily and hunted in the winter. We tried adding to feed - oats etc - and found that it just caused weight gain, which just reduced performance. But the Ener-G works fine.

I'd also recommend NAF Ener-G, which I've used successfully on my laid-back boy, as and when needed. Have also had success with Propell Plus, but this seemed to have a bit of a rocket fuel effect...! Best of luck finding the right one for you.
