What do you feed your cobs? I am getting my first horse in a few weeks :D and he currently isn't on any hard feed but has been out of work for 6 months. What would you recommend to start off with. I will be bringing him back into work very slowly.

I feed mine nothing at all. Nothing; nada; ziltch. He is out in a field that has grass in it. He's well covered, doesn't work terribly hard and is perfectly happy. I wouldn't dream of letting a morsel past his lips UNLESS he started to drop weight. Which he never has, not even when it was snowing, freezing, whatever.

start off with just what he's getting from his field - if he starts to drop weight give him hay, if he start to gain weight then stable him part of the day and feed soaked hay.

if, as he gets fitter, works harder or whatever he needs more energy or his weight changes then reassess it :)

mine gets hay (can't be ad lib for cobby types) non-mollased chaff and blue chip lami light balancer (she's not laminetic but it's low calorie, has all the vits and mins she needs and isn't a stupid price), if you don't want a balancer you could use a vit&min supplement

My cob had heard this word 'feed' before but sadly didn't get to experience it ;)

Cobs do not need fed. That's the whole point of them!

Summer time involves severely restricted grazing and a supplement (pelleted or powder or even a lick) and winter is restricted amounts of hay or haylege and a supplement.

If they start to look a bit lean (as if!) then they just get a little more grass or hay
