I have a gelding that i have just aquired - ex racehorse. He is underweight.. he windsucks (even with a collar on v.tight!) and he is a fussy eater.

He is on a stud and conditioning mix.. but is being very fussy about eating it.
He won't eat if alfa or chaff is added.. so stopped adding it...
now he's picking the nuts out of the mix. - I can't add oil as he won't eat it - and he won't eat equi jewel etc..

I feed little and often.. he gets about 8 small feeds a day...

I am also slightly concerned.. (and don't no if i'm right to be so.) that the mix is quite heating.. it seems to be full of oats and sugar.. - which i realise you need to put on the weight.. but i wonder if he's now a bit pumped up in the head.. and therefore a bit fizzy and stressy and so is now worrying the weight off...?? he seems happy in himself.. But just isn't putting on weight. He's been wormed... If he doesn't start to gain weight I'll have him blood tested etc..

Just wondering if there's a feed that is less heating but still gives him condition.

Top Spec Cool Condition Cubes. Cereal free so next to no starch, really are non-heating. But you need to feed a vit and min supplement with them.
