Hi,

I have recently bought a 7month old welsh sec A. Her breeder has given me a good supply of feed to keep me going and help wean her on to what I choose to feed, it is:
Alpha-A pellets (soaked)
Herbal Mix

I have bought the pellets but cannot get the mix as it was from their local supplier. As a rule i do not feed cereals anyway.

My horses are on Fast fibre, alpha-a oil and formula for feed.

Will the pellets or fast fibre and the F4F do her? I'm very concious that as a native she doesnt really need anything but as she's been getting fed I don't want to cut it out completely.

There's alot of conflicting opinions about feeding natives so I am trying to find a middle ground.

many thanks!

If she's used to the soaked alpha A pellets then the transition over to fibre beet/Alpha A won't be a difficult or different thing nutritionally for her. I would second your feeling regarding cereals, especially for natives of any age. I would go with a little bit of the alfa-A oil and fibrebeet you already use for your other horses as Alfa A oil uses the oil to bind the preservative to the alfalfa whereas all of the other Dengie chops use molasses. I'd then use a feed balancer to make sure she's getting a good balance of vits and mins. I have a feeling Top Spec do one specifically for youngstock but I'm sure their Lite balancer or something like Baileys Lo Cal would also be more than suitable. I swear by this feed combination for my section D mare who I've had since weaning and is now 13 years old and rides, drives and shows successfully on that diet along with 2 sections of hay a day and a muzzle on when out at grass.
