I have a 6year old Sec C mare, she is a good doer and practically lives off fresh air in the summer months.
All winter she has had one full scoop of Hi Fi lite and 1/4 scoop of Dodson and Horrell Leisure Mix with 3 slices of hay at night. She is out all day and has recently in the last week or so moved to a bigger field with a bit more grass altho you couldnt say there was lots of grass!
Yesterday i took her rugs off to groom her and really stood back and critically looked at her and altho she doesnt look poor she doesnt look that well rounded. (This has happened in the last 2/3 weeks) She was wormed at the start of Jan with 5 day panacur.
Now i am pretty sure as soon as the grass comes through she will be a little fat ball again, but there is just something niggling me about all this. As a 3 years old she looked awful all season, even tho she was being fed bucket loads and i dont want to have to feed her again all this summer if it can be helped!
Does anyone have any ideas? Should i add something to her feed for the time being, she looks well and has a shiny coat, she just looks tubular, she isnt in particularly hard work 3/4 times a week at the moment if that! My YO has suggested just adding either some sugar beet or alfa beet to her feed and then cut it out as soon as the grass comes, does this sound like a good idea?

Thanks in advance
