Feeding a thin laminitic

Tested negative for cushings and is having further tests for possible IR. Is a pony who loses weight very easily but since being on box rest (pending x-rays on hooves) is starting to lose a bit more than I'd like.

So what feeds do people suggest? Obviously low sugar etc. Is currently on hi-fi lite and 15lb of soaked hay a day. Thanks
 
My cushings\laminitis horse was getting ad lib 12 hour soaked hay and 2 feeds of Happy Hoof when she was bad. Speedi Beet is also fine for laminitics
 
If you soak your hay long enough, you should be able to feed almost as much as you like.

As other poster said, speedi beet is great and I would also advise adding a glug of oil to the diet.

It is also worth checking that your pony is geting decent nutritional support for the lami. - there are feed balancers and supplements out there for the lami prone.
 
I would make sure as others have suggested he is on a good vit and min supplement, Formula for Feet, or Equivite

Alfa A Lite is endorsed by the Laminitis trust, and as others have said speedibeet, oil, the unmollasses ranges from Dengie are low in sugar but higher in oil than the others so that might be an option to save adding oil

Hi Fi Lite actually has a fair bit of molasses in it, and contrary to it's marketing I wouldn't want to feed it to a lami.

Have you looked at simple systems feeds? Their Lucie Nuts are very good for my poor doer (with cushings so she needs needs to be treated as a lami risk). Also, ditto the vote for lots of oil. I use Bailey's outshine as my mare is a picky old baggage and won't eat feeds with straight oil in them. :rolleyes:
 
I'd get her on ad lib hay, and a balancer like Total Eclipse. Lucy nuts put weight on.

No cereal based feed, at all, as much fiber as she wants.I wouldn't pay any attention to what the Laminitis trust say, they have recomended some right old rubbish.
