Hi,

Does anyone have any feeding advice for an unridden broodmareon grass livery?
Would she need any hay/haylage during summer? What about winter? And would she need any hard feed/supplements or extra forage when in foal? Any advice will be appreciated:)

I used D&H mare & youngstock in the final trimester + the first 5 months of lactation I stopped her on it when it was nearly time to wean so that her milk would dry up a bit by which time youngster had long been chomping solids and had his own feed of M&Y + D&H sure grow which he still gets now as a yearling.

I fed my mare, speedi-beet and alfalfa pellets with a V&M supp designed for broodmares from about 3-4 months, at about 9 months I added simple systems red bag grass nuts right through lactation then they started to share feed (foal weaned at around 12months old), I was constantly told that I needed to feed stud mix etc etc but I'd rather feed a high fibre diet wherever possible, my foal was healthy and strong and as a 3yo is bigger than her mother.

Fed my mare baileys stud balancer from the day she came back from the stud. She is still eating that now and the foal is tucking in too. The only other thing i gave was hay in the winter especially when there was snow on the ground.
