I have a 16.1 Irish middle weight gelding and we compete at BE90/100, BD, RC etc. He's 9 this year.
Previously he has been tricky to keep weight on but also prone to becoming spooky and silly. He is lively and forward going but (generally) well behaved.
For the last few seasons he's been on staypowet mueseli and Alfa a and I've been very happy with his condition. However, as he's matured (was a late developer and only really stopped growing upwards at 8) and is now holding his weight much more, in fact a tad too much!
I'm thinking of reconsidering the staypower because of this. Also he doesn't struggle to maintain energy in the way he did when he was younger. Of course This may be because of the staypower! So I'm looking for suggestions. I don't want him to lose sparkle and but I'm wary of anything turning him too spooky.
Plus would like something more low
cal. He's out 24/7 on reasonable but certainly not very good grazing. He's worked 6 days a week including a competition of some kind, rest a mixture of schooling for an hour or hacking with canter work. He's easily BE100 fit.
Hope that makes sense. I'm on my phone and can't look back easily! Any ideas appreciated!
