Hi, need some feeding advice!
My mare is nearly 12, we do abit of sj, xc, hacking dressage etc. Shes fit at the moment, but can have a tendancy to get a big hay belly in summer months (looks in foal) but she doesnt get alot of muscle build on her topline.

Shes a warmblood, and I do proper work with her to encourage it, just wondering if there is anything I should be feeding her too.
Shes currently eating alfa-a lite, power and perfomance (allen and page) and has a iron/multivit supplement.
Thanks in advance!!

In such a case, I'd be focusing on a hi fibre diet, a performance supplement or balancer and a probiotic, something like protexin... Fennel seeds help with digestion too.

Make sure you're feeding enough lysine - it's the first limiting amino acid in horses.

I'd also cut the iron - it's oversupplied in UK forage as it is, and excess can inhibit the absorption of other vital minerals such as copper, which tend to be lacking in UK forage as it is.

Make sure your feed has enough protein in it

Sorry for hijacking OP

So if I am feeding fast fibre, linseed, pink powder and a mare supplement what would/could I add to increase the protein. Horse is barefoot, her feet are improving significantly on this diet. She is out 24/7 now on moderate grazing with good mix of nettles, burdock, and other herbs round the edge.
