Hi, my poor doer tb has injured his leg and has stitches and dressings, he will need at least 3 weeks in, he is a newish addition and I have no idea how he will react to box rest, he is pretty chilled generally so I'm hoping he will fare well! But, I don't want to fizz him up. He is non ridden currently so won't miss the work luckily. He currently gets........ 1 Stubbs scoop alpha a oil, 1 small scoop calm and condition (unsoaked scoop size) 1 mug micronized linseed, 45mls vegetable oil and garlic twice daily. He also has ad lib hay. Question is, should I keep this as is, tweak it or completely change it? He is 13 year old, no health issues bar this injury. Thanks for reading 😁

see how he goes... i've my poor doer on fibrebeet and a balancer plus oil, and he looks great and never fizzes, even on box rest. If he's adlib hay he should be fine without feed if he's fizzing up.

Thank you paddi22, that's good to hear. He just can't afford to lose anything, I have battled to get it on him! Hopefully I can just keep him as he is, he is a complete pig and loves his hard feed!

Ad lib good quality meadow hay, we used to give the box rest horses basic Horse & Pony cubes and sugarbeet - gave them the vitamins and minerals they needed plus the pellets were usually reasonably low fizz as being geared towards feeding kids ponies. You could add meadow hay chaff to the feed, anything to get the fibre into him.
