this is my new boy he is 15.1 and 2 yrs old (3 in april) he is for showing - in hand then under saddle, he is being gelded in a couple of weeks, then coming up to me.
he is currently being fed: chaff, cool mix, blue chip and sugar beet, with ad lib haylage (pretty much no turnout)
with me he will be on good grazing during the day and in with haylage at night
any reccomendations on what to feed him?

Love, love, love him.

As soon as you get him out 24/7 I'd drop the hard feed. He looks tremendous - but will have the tendancy to really blow up on the grass, so you're going to have to watch his weight I suspect.

What a beautiful animal!!!

With the greatest of respect, stop worrying about what to put in his bucket and find somewhere he can be turned out 24/7. Baby horses need freedom to grow, play and learn to be horses.

Sorry read that wrong, thought no turn out with you.

He looks great and I hope you have lots of fun with him. I feed my youngsters DH suregrow, very little needed so 20kg bag lasts a decent length of time, they are out 24/7 and have adlib haylage in the winter.

Thanks - he has to be in at night at my yard from the end of sept, but he will be out for a good 10 hrs in the day - I have fed suregrow to native yougsters before and it was good, and like you say it lasts for ages with them, just spoke to D&H and they said feed:
ultimate balancer, alfa A and grow n show supplement?
then spoke to baileys and they said: no14 lo cal balancer, alfaA, outshine and sugar beet in winter

How sad that he gets no turn out. Take a good look at his feet, as they may be suffering badly on that feed and management combo.

Re the feed, I'm a bit gobsmacked that the feed companies (and his former owner) would feed all that to a native youngster. Grass, hay and a balancer is what I'd feed.

Grass, haylage and a small handfull of unmollassed chaff with a braod spec supplement added. That said, keep an eye on feet as they will let you know if anything is wrong.

Micronised linseed is great for shine, hooves, and general condition - just a mug full a day will suffice. These feed companies woud sell you the earth if they could..

p.s. he's LOVELY!

this is the reason she is selling him - he goes out in the menage every day to stretch his legs, but she has lost all her grazing
I was suprised to - I would was thinking suregrow mixed with a little AA and then possibly a showing suplement for his coat

Agree.

Nature will provide all he needs at present.

I'm not often a fan of coloureds (I run away from any white) but he is lovely!

:D I know - thats what I thought when I saw him! was supposed to be looking for a 3/4yr old but he is just perfect for what I was looking for, I dont care about the extra year - I will just show him in hand, plus it just gives me more time to get to know him and bring him on slowly, his pics dont do him justice, he is even more gorgeous in the flesh!!!

the lady I'm buying him from has welsh D's - some of the most beautiful I have seen, a Gypsy stallion broke in to her mares field and "didn't cover any of her mares" according to the owner!!!!! I'm so glad he did :)

With great respect - rather than ask opinions on here, please get in touch with an independent equine nutritionist (not one associated with a feed company). It will be money well spent.

He is lovely but my advise would be to igonore what the feed companies have said - it is shocking what they advise for a well covered, mature looking native 2yo.

Feed him grass and hay/haylage, and then just a small fibre based feed with a vit/min suppliment

Ditto or perhaps a pelleted balancer like lo cal or equmins ultimate
