Now that I’m doing more with Bodey I’m finding he is lacking little bit of energy and wondered if you guys had any suggestions on what is best to feed him?
First of for those who don’t know Bodey is a 15hh, 5 year old, MW cob (he’s the one in my sig). If you want a bigger photo then just let me know.

He is currently fed 800g of Alfa A Oil a day, divided between breakfast and tea. He also gets a general purpose vitamin supplement, normally one apple and a few carrots.

He is out for 18 hours a day but we don’t have a massive amount of grass. He gets as much hay as he wants when he is in the stable, saying that he doesn’t eat more than a slice or two as stable means nap time. He gets approx third of a bale of hay out in the field at night.

He is ridden between 5 and 6 times a week, normally twice schooling for no more than 30 minutes. A lesson, could be jumping every other week for 30 minutes. Some hacking, normally about an hour in walk and trot. And usually some competing one day at the weekend, either SJ or sponsored ride etc.

Obviously I don’t want to feed anything that could make him fat, he is quite a good doer, but just want something that gives that little more fizz without him climbing the walls. So any ideas?

Thanks,
Jo

For the best advice send the details of your horse, size, breed, etc & what you are doing with him, i.e amount & type of work & what you are feeding at the moment to one of the feed companies such as Dodson & Horrell, Spillers, Baileys' They all have contact emails & they will send you all you need to know free of charge. They don't 'rubbish' other companies products either & the answers willl be from professional horse nutritionists.

I would just add something like Pasture mix or Allen and Pages hacking mix, just to give a bit more instant energy. Bob cob used to get comp mix by the ton, but he isnt a particularly good doer!!
