I have the worlds most sensitive horse to feed. I have tried lots of different types of feed and 90% of them have sent him loopy, I always come back to A&P Fast Fibre as my base feed, but its just not quite enough for him he lacks a bit in energy and good coat condition. Admitably that is better than having him a raving nutter but I continue my search for what I can add to get the balance right and thought I'd try and tap in to the knowledge here :)

To confuse matters he can not tolerate any type of feed balancer, I have tried a wide range and they are definate no go!

He did really well on A&P Veteran Vitality last winter (he is not a veteran) but he put too much weight on it even at small levels so he came off it.

I was considering sugarbeat, but that is included in FF so not sure that would be any additional benefit?

Grass pellets, just about to read up on those as know nothing about them just been suggested by a friend.

AlfaA but have always avoided it and know some horses don't get on with it and knowing him he would be one of them!

Does anyone have any thoughts on those or any other ideas?

On another note I have three bags of PureFeeds looking for a home if anyone is local and would like them :)

Oil in some form should give him energy, without sending him loopy, as well as being good for the coat, micronised linseed would be ideal.

I use ff as my base for all of mine except the one that is working fairly hard, he gets calm and condition with alfalfa pellets and linseed doing very well on this.

Sounds like A&P feeds suit your horse so I would give them a call. Their new Cool and Collected has a few more calories that FF but less than Veteran Vitality so may be the balance you are looking for.

Thanks have tried Cool and Collected, he didn't eat up and lost quite a bit of weight and his coat was really dull, he seems to do better on FF which doesn't really make sense but thats horses!

He does have a supplement with micronised linseed that he's fine with so I could try that thanks :)

Hi ClareW22, I have recently put my TB on to Dengie Alfafa A Oil and Aphabeet as was looking for more condition over winter adn was worried he'd "hot" up with the Alfafa A Oil but he hasnt and I've noticed a marked improvement in his condition and energy levels. A friend feeds her FF but I've always associated that with good-doers so maybe a low molasses sugar beet like Alphabeet or Speedibeet might be a better alernative to the FF as it has more calories, and yes recommend micronised linseed! I've heard Calm and Condition is supposed to be fairly good. Have you tried Baileys No4 Topline Conditioning cubes? Didnt really work on my TB but certainly didnt "hot" him up but I know some people who have sworn by them for building condition.

Give balanced horse feeds a ring. they have a good range of specialist type feeds and i have aalways found them helpful.
