Ok so after my recent post about my youngster that is turned away, I have had hay put out in the field. Its not bad quality for the time of year but she is just not eating it although does seem to have put on a little weight.
I am looking into giving her some hard feed just for the next few weeks till the grass come through. She will be getting one feed per day probably 5/6 times per week as that is all I can manage due to work etc and the people that check her the other times won't be able to feed her for me.
What is the best feed for her? She is a 16.3hh Warmblood who will be 4 in June. This was her a week or so ago - she does seem to have put on a litle weight since this photo though:-

We always use Alfa Oil and D&H Build up cubes (along with ad lib haylage, but yours is living out. But could you get haylage as she isn't fussed by the hay?). I take it your worming and teeth are up to date? Is she rugged? You could add a pro biotic if you're worried. We usually give it a month on the feed before adding. Hope that helps!

Alfa Oil, Build-up Cubes and Pink Powder. Has she had a worm count done and blood test for tape worm?? Have her teeth been checked??

my new thoroughbred who i bought 2 weeks ago is looking about the same condition as yours.

i am currently feeding him chaff, sugarbeet, topline conditioning cubes and top spec feed balancer. he is turned out in quite a grassy field and has ad lib hay. he is rugged up and he is starting to put on weight.

I would definately get her teeth done as mine had his done this week and it turns out he had very sharp teeth and loads of mouth ulcers bless him!

i would also make sure worming is up to date!

I had weight worries consistantly with my prev horse! I tried so much it was a joke he was always up & down untill i feed him on Alfa-A oil, & baileys No.4 - deffinatly reccommended!

I recently bought my 16.3hh Gidran and the vet was shocked as to how thin he WAS .... since beginning of March he's been on beet and Spillers conditioning cubes three times a day, he has hay available throughout the day and night, and he's rugged whether out or in. He's started to fill out very nicely!

I would contact the feed companies for advice. I phoned Baileys about my 16.2hh tb, came up with a plan for me. I am now using Baileys no 17 conditioning mix, alfa a with oil, speedibeet and veg oil. I have a constant battle to maintain condition on mine. I would also put a weigh tape around her weekly, then you know just how well she is doing. If you can try and divide feeds in to 3 feeds a day, it does help and can make a difference. Good luck

Ditto plus loads of forage - and I mean loads!

Teeth check, worm count, and for a few weeks, I;d employ someone to go and bring her in to feed on the days that you cannot.
IF you can only get there one a day, I'd feed a conditioning mix and a supplement such as Blue Chip, Top Spec etc.
What has she been fed all winter?
Hay and grass alone is often not be enough nutrition for a growing youngster, depending on tis quality

Teeth checked and all worming up to date. She is in a medium weight full neck t/o most of the time with a heavy weight instead when it has been really cold. Over the winter I have not really needed to feed her just a handful of Happy hoof / manger mix and adlib hay. Its really just over the last 3/4 weeks since she has been turned out that she has really dropped off. I'm going to call the top spec help line today to get some advice. They have always been really helpfull in the past.
