Bit of a random post really... Just want peoples ideas of what my horses shoud be getting hard feed wise.

My pony is a 14.2hh 16 year old con x type. Currently in light work do to time restictions. In at night, out in the day, blanket clipped and well rugged. She tends to do well weight wise and is looking well.

My horse started winter a bit under weight but is now up to weight if not over! She is 15 years old, 15.3hh, blanket clipped and well rugged, also in at night out in the day. She is in light/medium work.

I know it's a hard thing to guess without knowing the horse, but what would you feed them if they were yours? Feel free to ask if you need for info about them.

Not a lot of hard feed I should think, just enough to make life worth living! I should think (twice a day) a base of a couple of handfuls of Alfa-A Lite or Hi-Fi, and a couple of handfuls of Baileys No.14 Lo-Cal Balancer, and then any specific supplements you may need to give if necessary. Mine also get a few handfuls of D&H pasture nuts in a snack-a-ball at night, and plenty of hay when they are in. All low calorie stuff really, and they look well on it.

I agree, doesn't sound like you need calories for weight or energy so as long as they are getting their vits and mins. I use winergy equilibrium low energy which is a scientifically proven feed suitable for horses in light to medium work.

This would be good as you could feed them both the same thing. It's low calorie, high fibre, suitable for laminitics and promotes good behaviour.

You don't add anything to it at all, no chaff, no supplements. I think it's brilliant. I spoke to them at Your Horse Live and they were really helpful without making me feel stupid. their number is 01908 576 277.
