wondering if you lovely lot can give me a bit of feeding advice!
i have a 16.1hh 5yr old TB gelding, who can drop weight occasionaly, but not drastically!
he has been on a simple diet of sugar beet, build up cubes and pink powder, this has so far kept him going ok, but his workload has now increased, and need to give him a little ommph but not so he is mental!
basically i want something to keep the weight on, and give him some energy but without making him go over the edge!
thought about calling a few feed companies but thought I would try my luck here first! thanks all in advance.

How about oil?
Ours get a little microionized linseed (no prep and has more nutrition in than the liquid oils as it hasn't been destroyed by the manufacturing process), or you could just use sunflower oil from the supermarket? Perhaps start on just 1/4 a cup a day and see how he goes on it?

thanks thepony. i should have mentioned i put him on linseed during the winter months, and it kept his weight on great, but didnt give him any more energy to be honest. made his coat look wonderful though :)

Maybe try swapping his build up cubes for an economy mix or a competition mix?

Or even mix half and half conditioning cubes and competiton mix? That should give him a bit more energy without losing condition?

You're not going to find a compound feed with much more energy then build up cubes as they are one of the most calorific conditioning cube on the Market. If you want more calories go for an oil supplement on top like equijewel or outshine. If you want more fast release energy then swap to a competition mix which has higher levels of cereals/starch in it.
