Feeding advice?

I'm looking forward to welcoming a new addition in the next couple of weeks but wondering whether I should switch his feeds up.

He's a 4YO Cob x TB who does need strengthening up over time etc.

He's currently being fed Spillers Shine+Conditioning Mix, Spillers Horse and Pony cubes and a bit of conditioning fibre.

I've had experience of Spillers before and have found that it gave my horse far too much fizz despite being low energy - although I do appreciate he's a different case! He's quite forward already so wouldn't want anything too excitable.

Would you stick with what he's on or change it up? I have fed my Cob PureFeed Fibre Balance and he's done well on that but don't want to switch if it won't give the youngster the right stuff to build up.

Any advice/thoughts much appreciated- I'm probably just otherthinking too much!

IMO it depends what you want to achieve and what is currently working for him already or if you want to feed more straights rather than mixes. If he needs the condition, personally I would do something like soaked grass nuts and linseed or if it's a hassle to soak as they need a few hours, you could do fast fibre which soaks in seconds, linseed and grass chaff. For condition, I would always go to linseed or copra I think. Not sure on energy as I've never had a horse that needed it so hopefully someone else can help on that one!

I'm personally not a great fan of mixes /nuts, it's not really what they were designed to eat. What is his weight like? as a 4 y/o I would expect him to need to build muscle but you won't want him fat.

A good all round vitamin and mineral supplement is worth investing in.

At this time of year and assuming a sensible weight already then grass and vits should be plenty

Grass nuts are great if he needs weight
