I know feeding seems to be like a minefield out there so it never seems easy. My horse is on a fibre and oil based diet on the advice of my vet. He is currently on mirconised linseed , alfa a molasses free , corn oil and fibre beet. Would anyone suggest anything different?

Why are you worried about following your vets advice?
The corn oil will probably be to add calories without fizzing him up (i.e. to maintain weight, as it is energy dense). Horses do well on relatively high oil diets (25-20%) if introduced gradually.

Or why not switch your Alfa a to the Alfa a with oil? I like equijewel but at around £40 a bag, it's expensive and my horse looks just as good on Alfa a oil (around £14 a 20kg bag) and the Alfa balancer (around £23). Also saved money by not needing to feed a general vitimain and mineral supplement (which cost me £23). Horse is 17 hands, TB X, in light work (according to the definition from Dengies).. 5 to 6 times a week mixed work.
