My little mare is as loving as they come, and a sweetheart to ride, it is just that after 20 minutes of not so hard work she is sweaty... after a 30 minute lesson she is running and steaming, she has a chase clip at the moment but this is the case in summer too!

Is this just her, and her metabolism or could this be feed related? ie am I stocking the boiler with the wrong sort of fuel. She is a warm horse compared to the gelding as he is snuggled in 220g underrugs and MW stables and she is comforable in just the MW stable

She is a fine skinned TB, and is fed the same as my gelding (Mollichaff, economy pony nuts, speedybeet and Topspec comprehensive.)

This diet does seem to suit her but someone on the yard thought that the feed may be causing her to sweat excessivly thus the question to you all....there are so many feeds now that I actually don't know which way to turn.

I just thought it was her, rather than feed related but the question posed did make me wonder

I am totally confused

I should think it is just her. My old mare is the same but that is because she is very fizzy (whatever she eats) and buzzy. She has a blanket clip and I keep debating whether to take off more coat. She is 24 so I like to 'look after' her.

She doesn't show any other signs of pain does she? Excess sweating can be a sign that the horse is in pain, otherwise it's probably just her! Some horses do sweat up easily no matter what they are fed.

no pain from what i can determine, she is like it on the lunge, schooling and out hacking. Not so much in the field when she mooches about.

It must be just her, and a rather good internal furnace!

my driving pony (welsh a fizzy type) after 5 mins working on the lunge, driving or even being riddern she sweats buckets.even at shows she is the same. i feed her a salt replacer in with the food after she has worked hard.
to me that's her i don't worry to much about her.

My first TB sweated all the time - often at a walk or even standing waiting to go out with the hounds - she was an excitable sort. My second TB and my WB only sweated when really working hard or it was very hot.

Cairo sweats up really easily but he is a big hairy clydesdale. Cairo is full clipped summer and chaser clipped and later full clipped in winter even though in light work. Chancer is the same but again he is gypsy cob so hardy.

I feed salt in summer and when needed in winter - ie if he has really got sweaty.

Can't see anything wrong with the feed you are giving - similar to what I have fed my TBs and hairies for years. I would stay with what you are feeding.

I am a chilly willy and hardly get sweaty and my OH does not feel the cold and when hot he gets sweaty when I am comfortable, he will be in a t-shirt when I am in two jumpers - horses are the same - some horses just sweat lots more than others and need far less rugging.

In other words, don't worry.
