Feeding chaff as a hay replacement.

A question to any of you that feed chaff as a hay replacer.

How do you ration it? is it just put own in a bucket or trough?
My mare is going onto Hi-Fi lite as opposed to haylage as fed up with the reaction she has with the varying quality of it.

we use hifi lite and I'm sure that there are good feeding guidelines on the bag but it will depend on the amount of hard feed you are using as well.

Mine gets a tub full of good doer ith a scoop of hi fibre nuts as a partial hay replacer. I fed the good doer instead of hifi as he doesn't need energy as such but decided back in december that eating hay/haylege as beneath him(have no idea why - teeth,general health ,hay analysed came back with nothing report really - all v strange) so he gets lots of small amounts of different fibre to try and get him to eat.He has a section of hay which will last about four days, a section of haylege hich most of the time he will clear over night ,endurance mix which is higher in fibre than normal comp mix with a scoop and a hlaf of alfa a morning and evening,the bucket of good doer and a brick . He seems to be doing well on this so am hoping it is providing enough fibre.

I bought a giant rubber trug and secured into the corner of my mare's stable. I kept it full of HiFi Lite. After the initial interest had worn off, she would ration herself and just nibble at it. She rarely ate all of it in any one day. I think the trick is to use something fairly bland, so the horse is not encouraged to over eat. HiFi Lite is ideal for this. Low calorie, dust free and fairly bland.
