Never thought to ask the vet! Talisker is a pretty small lurcher and weighs 25.65kg at the moment - so at the moment I am giving him a large chicken piece and a 100g uncooked weight of rice twice a day? Is this enough do you think? He certainly enjoyed it tonight

Also I am going to be cooking every night for that evening and the next morning, so am keeping his breakfast in the fridge overnight - that'll be OK wont it? I thought that I would do it for me, so should be OK for him

Eeek just thought - put mine in a metal dog bowl

Off to change it to a plastic container now, I'm sure you arent meant to keep stuff in tins in the fridge.

It was SO nice to give him his tablets with the chicken tonight though, and not have my fingers bitten yet again - I'm covered in bruises where he didnt appreciate me popping them down him

ETS - ooops sorry Rema - thank you for the reply

I just cant wait to get him onto more substantial food - he was on 3 tins a day of the special sensitive diet stuff and he was still hungry because it wasnt doing him any good

Anyway fingers crossed these antibiotics etc will work - the whole house seems to be covered in Kaogel, he doesnt like me syringing it into him

Luckily it smells quite nice, but I am just washing another set of clothes...

To save a tiny bit of cash, buy a chook and then when you have skinned and boned it after it's roasted, boil the carcass and use the stock to cover the rice. It is still protein rich and will do a meal or two. We found that by keeping the rice and adding a tiny bit of tinned dog food, gradually replacing the chicken worked well. Hope Tal is better soon. I used to have to buy whole turkeys from Lidl as worked out cheaper as whenever Haz got colitis, he has a whole turkey per day and hubbs and I has value beans on value bread and wondered whether licking a dogs bowl was really that bad an idea!lol! Haz beat us to it though.....

LMAO

I thought exactly the same last night Woolly - Talisker had chicken and rice, I had beans on toast, I thought "what on earth am I doing here!"

Still no improvement though

but I know need to give it a couple of days

I am just so worried

Try not to worry and I know it's hard not to so big hugs there... Haz would go through phases of this and admittedly it was always in Summer and in the heat despite the little so and so having his own proper air con unit that cost us a fortune and 2x18 inch fans going winter and summer.... The rice seemed to do the trick but why oh why did it have to be basmati fragrant! This is the dog who until he had his bouts of colitis would live on the cheapest of dog food or catch it himself! He made up for it with his damn chicken/turkey and rice lol!
Chin up and Tal is such a lucky dog to have you. Just read your post about crying and don't give it a second thought....you are talking to somebody who when Haz was at the peak of fitness aged 2 and had just taken a fox in front of the master of the hunt by breaking free and getting ahead of the pack to my embarrassment , sustained a small cut on his thigh and whilst it was being stapled I started to fill up in front of our young and handsome vet and asked...
"he won't die will he???" I knew it was stupid and irrational but that was his first proper cut! Gosh I am a wuss!!!!!

Oh Woolly it is so nice to know that I am not the only one who is like this - for myself, I know I am getting things out of proportion, but I just want it to stop! I thought he would be fine with the chicken and rice last night but he wasnt overnight (I'm also wondering how much longer I will be cleaning the kitchen floor etc the whole time)

I am ringing around trying to get recommendations for vets to give me a second opinion, so if things dont pick up today/tomorrow then I will try another vet

Poor Tal is getting incredibly thin now and he didnt have a lot to spare originally
