feeding correctly?

hi all, just wanted a general view on what my boy should be getting. He is a 16hh tbxconnemara but acts like pure tb!!
he gets VERY exitable when out riding

, and is fairly ribby although has put on weight recently. fed;
1 scoop allen page calm condition
1 scoop cool mix
1/2 scoop sugar beet
1 scoop alfa A oil
farriers formula
(This is split over two feeds)
He really needs something that will build him up more. I want to give him a balancer, but topspec makes him go loopy, and is also very expensive. Any thoughts or ideas??

I would drop the Cool mix and feed 2 scoops of calm and condition, and if need be add more oil as a slow release energy form to add weight without fizz. Also change the beet to an unmolassed type (if not already!)

Only problem with that is he hates oil!cant stand the stuff fussy boy. The beet is unmolassed, but dont know if it's doing much for him, but he loves it!!

Well if you up his C+C you may find he doenst need it!? Alternative to a balancer like Topspec is something like NAF pink powders, that is a cheaper option. Maybe try changing his beet to fibre beet? Has a bit more in it. Hnestly think if you cut down the cool mix and add more C+C you will see an improvement

ok will definitely up the C+C. Think i may try fibre beet as well, has been recommended to me before!

A&P weight gain is brill. My chappie isnt fizzy as such but excitable and nervyous, I found C&C fizzed him up, but weight gain didnt just made him nice and chubby!

ok,think it will be matter of trial and error!i had him up at another yard while i was away and they altered his feed-fed him like a racehorse!he has gained weight but came back like a racehorse as well!they gave him the allen and page, topspec calmer and speedi beet.

I'd cut out the cool mix and change the s.beet to fibrebeet

I think I read somewhere (maybe on here?!) that there is a pellet type feed which has loads of oil in it, sorry not much help but it's supposed to be good for horses that don't like but need oil.
maybe someone else can give more info

I'm not sure. Although balancers are expensive to start with, they last so much longer they arent that bad at all when you work out how much it is saving you in the long run! Baileys balancers are normally reasonable, but not the best on the market IMHO.

i'd drop the cool mix, up the alfa (at least 1 scoop per feed), the sugar beet (1/2 scoop per feed) and then if you need to you can up the c&c.

I read somewhere about a feed balancer called 365 advance feed balancer. Claims to be better than topspec blue chip etc but dont they all!!Was wondering if anyone has heard of or used it. I know that some top riders do but thats neither here nor there!!

I started a looney TB mare on Topspec Super Conditioning Flakes about a month ago and shes doing really well on them. Shes put on weight, she had started dropping off. Shes also fed D&H Build-up mix, alfa-a oil and sugar beet. Shes om Magic (NAF) as a calmer, not 100% sure it works as shes still looney to ride, but is more settled on the yard. x
