Feeding dilemma....and an embarrassing problem!

My 1yr old jrt has anal gland 'issues' and im at a loss what to do.

When he first arrived he was on bakers puppy, which we took him off in vets advice and put on pro plan sensitive. Anal gland problems stopped and all was well, then I changed him onto barking heads good hair day after reading some posts on here/other forums, anal gland issues came back. Decided to take the plunge for RAW 1 month ago in the effort to cure the anal gland issue, problem is as bad as ever :-(

What to do next? Any supplement recommendations? Go back to pro plan?

This is the problem, been entirely on raw for one month and just had an accident on the sofa :-( x

My dog is having problems with this too!

Advice from vet so far is to feed a carrot to her a day for extra fibre. So trying this!

Failing this, they will teach me to empty her glands or I can have her anal glands removed,,

sometimes there are physical reasons for anal glad issues that no diet will cure Im afraid.

Im not sure about the raw carrot - if glands arent emptying on a diet rich in bone - and presumably poops are rock hard? If you feed veg for the nutritional benefit it has to be pulped in order for the dogs to utilise the nutrients anyway, as they cant digest them otherwise - hence you will no doubt be seeing small bits of orange coming out the other end.

Or try bunging a handful of All Bran into the food,it is useful stuff with dogs.

Yeah poops are hard and sometimes covered in 'anal glad juice' (sorry!)

Are you sure there's no underlying infection? Infected glands will keep refilling regardless of diet until treated with ab

Antibiotics. I had problems for a year with my young dog. Sorted by a few courses of ab after cultures grown from anal gland samples. I can sympathise, it's so rank and smelly!
Mine is fed orijen or acana with raw bones. Good luck with it

Been to the vets a few times to have them emptied to see if that helped and they said no infection, will give them a call though and ask about cultures. It really is a very grim problem!
