Hi, my dressage horse is a really laid back chap and I want to make him a bit more full of himself so i dont have to work as hard to generate the sparkle myself! I have tried upping his oats quite alot but it hasnt really made much difference. does anyone else know if there is a feed that can make them a bit sharper and full of themselves? he is currently on top spec conditioning flakes with the oats and some chaff.
any help suggestions would be fab!

I have my horse on Equine America Propell plus - I have a very laid back horse who often lacks sparkle eventing and since hes been on it his dressage scores have been 33, 34 and 28. I did not want to feed him more as he is a greedy thing but needed some ooomph. He is a TB and it did not hot him up at all but it can for others.

I believe the most heating feed you can give is flaked maise, aka 'rocket fuel'. We used to give our old hunter this which did give him a little more umph when needed. Doesnt suit every horse though.

thanx for all your help, i have just put him on red cell this last week, hum i thought oats made them really hyper u see as if my TB even got a sniff of them he would be round the bend!! but the dressage boy is a warmblood so may be it doesnt work the same with them! thanx anyway, i will continue to experiment

your first post reads as though it could have been me asking the question about my horse before i changed his feed

he is now on , & it has worked a treat:

dodgson & horrell micro feed (described by feed merchant as rocket fuel!)
oats
alfa oil (also balances the calcium/phos imbalance in the oats if feed at same weight)
salt
sugar beet

an extra scoop of microfeed really adds some extra sparkle if he has a busy schedule!
