Feeding eggs?

Everyone in the countryside has too many hens eggs at the moment. I know because I have asked them all! I can only eat so many…

On the other hand, I have a pony that could do with more weight on him and he is getting hard feed (sugar beet and oats) twice a day.

I'm sure I have read something somewhere about feeding eggs to horses. Can anyone confirm this is OK and suggest how many and in what form (with or without shells, raw or cooked, etc)??

I fed raw eggs to a sick horse years ago, syringed in mixed with honey in a desperate attempt to get something into him, I think he was getting several each day possibly 1/2 dozen, it didn't fix him but certainly did no harm.

As long as they are from hens that are organic as in not stuffed with drugs they are fine to feed. its the old fashioned way to put weight on with a bottle of stout or guiness

Yes, I was sure I had read something! Thanks for the confirmation. There's a heap of good sense in those old books.

I have a meat breed of poultry on free range that lay wild and roost in the trees. They are fed either whole wheat or whole barley, so their eggs will be added to the pony's feed tomorrow. The dogs already get them, either in their feed or self service!
