We have a 14.2 connemara pony with an exciatable temperment. We have good quality meadow hay would feeding it ad-lib contribute to the fizzy temeprement.
We we did cut back the hay and she seemed calmer however has dropped some weight.
Are then any feeds you could reccomend ~?
thanks

I'd try to stick with the ad lib hay, ideally you want late cut hay, so it's got less energy value.
I'd aim for 24/7 turnout, or as much as possible, and give a small feed, just a lo-cal chop, without mollasses on it, with a broard spectrum vit and min supplement and some yeast/ pre or pro biotics..... pink powder, or simple systems total eclipse would be good. You could also add some plain magnesium, make sure it's pure and not a calmer which contains sugars etc
Finally is your pony rugged? Sometimes if they are getting cold it can make them sharper.

Yeah I'd look for a way forward with hay, giving a fizzy pony hard feed is a general no no, just gives them extra energy that they just dont need. My understanding is as babybells say, stick to fibre x

If you want to give im a hard feed there is high fi lite fast fibre speedi beet high fibre nuts there is a lot of hard feed about with very low everything in it but very high fibre thats what you need!

Toto is a 14.2 connemara too and can get very fizzy on hard feed but drops condition in the winter so he now has a 4 handfuls of fast fibre and and a couple of hi-fi lite. It keeps him nice and calm but at a nice weight too
