At the moment my boy is out at grass 24/7 with no feed he is in rather good condition i.e. very fat he's 17.1 IDxTB we have a couple of shows coming up one being a county show, and I would like his coat to be in a bit better condition.

Its not dull by any means by not gleaming either, any advice on feed/oil that I could give him without gaining anymore weight!

I can cope with him being a bit fresher but I don't need weight gain

what do you feed at the moment?

i use the winergy equilibrium feeds and all mine look like shiny marbles! even the low energy one had made my fatty look like glass.

perhaps you could swap what he's currently on to the most similar in the range?

He's not being fed at the moment he is on very good grazing, his condition is good but I just want that extra glow that comes from the inside out

Mine are very shiney - feed on gold label ready linseed, one 50ml scoop a day.

One laminitic has it with bran mash, so very little calories other than from the linseed which is only 50ml

I hate feeding oil as its messy and horrible!

If you feed a lot of oil, vitamin e needs to be included in the diet to avoid vitamin E deficiency.

I would recommend a bath for his particular coloured coat and Codlivine power fed in a low cal chaff (made a difference to my horse at the time)

Also there are some low cal feed balancers, my horse is on lami-lite and a handful of chaff for joint supplements.

Soya oil is great, and cheap......

But is also a bit like rocket fuel!!!

Sometimes I think he could do with some of that he is such a laid back chap.

Can't get to the feed merchants til sat so I will have a look then at the winergy feeds

Winter glow Summer shine by Equus Health any good feed merchant should stock it, It contains cooked Linseed whichis fantastic for coats, garlic good for immune system and flies, seaweed for coat and feet, and fenugreek for gassy bellies caused by too much grass.
It is fab and horses love it.

Doesn't work for all though - made no difference to mine (already feed on TopSpec turbo and red cell!)

Cheapest place to buy is tesco, thibnk was 80p for 2L

omega rice is very good. its rice bran and linseed, if you only want improved coat rather than weight gain you only need a very small amount. ive got both my TB on it and my shetland filly, both look like glass. it is made by falcon feeds and can be ordered online
