Feeding for coat shine

never tried flax seed but cannot recommend Blue Chip Original highly enough, great for youngsters to competition horses .Good condition with sanity

Flax seed is Linseed. Linseed is fantastic for coat shine and condition, with other benefits for the horse too.

Try: Linseed (Click on the 'Horse' link, along the LHS menu of options.)

Honestly, I bought a bag from them and had it delivered (cost me an extra £7 for courier delivery) and have been feeding a mug full per day, for the past 3 weeks. The shine on my horses' coats is amazing. Several people have walked past, stopped and asked me if my horses are wet! Apparently their coats are so shiny they look like they're actually wet (they're not BTW!!!

If you want to save on courier delivery, apparently you can ask your local feed supplier to get it in for you. Others on this forum do that.

I feed both BOSS and linseed and my dark bay looks like a mirror. I found the BOSS also made their coats change colour - much darker and richer.

I use the Equus linseed and sometimes I feed linseed lozenges as they love these. I get the Equus linseed from www.mileendsupplies.co.uk and the lozenges from a local tack shop.

You can also get linseed from Simple Systems which is good (I tried this first) but its only convenient if you have a local supplier.

Linseed (Flax oil) is also really popular and I think is meant to be more efficiently broken down and utilised by the horse.

I use instant linseed which I get from charnwood - link above - I use a fair amount having two large hairies and this is the cheapest place. I used to use SS linseed but it is expensive.

I also feed BOSS and find the combination of BOSS/linseed really works on my two - their coats are darker and really shiny - Farra is more of a bay sabino than a ginge now and Chancer is a lovely dark bay skewbald.

Is it better than Outshine? It sounds cheaper but I expect you have to pay delivery dnt you? It sounds very good though - do they eat it up alright?

Hi, can I ask how much linseed you feed and how much BOSS?
I am feeding about 1/4 pint of BOSS to my 16.2 MW horses and a bit less to the two coloured Welsh D X Traditional 8 month foals I plan to show in hand this year. I am thinking of adding some linseed ready for the spring showing season to add some extra sheen and condition.

My boy has a very shiny coat and I put it down to his horslyx and also the glug of corn oil put in his feed twice a day, doesn't seem to fizz him up either if thats a concern!

I started my boys on the Equus Herbs Winter Glow Summer Shine a couple of months back, when I clipped my cob last week I was totally amazed, underneath he is absolutely gleaming.

He looked as good as if the sun was shining on him in summer!

I can thoroughly recommend it, its made such a difference to my gangs coats!

They are pelletts and it was 25kg bag not 20 kg so really good price.I asked yo to check them to make sure I didnt have to cook because they were so reasonable.
