hi, our new pony has had a bad couple of weeks after developing a virus and not eating. virus all clear but has lost quite a bit of weight - old owners say he might be sugar intolerant and only fed him simple system lucerne nuts and total eclipse.

as he didnt have much appetite i put him on 2 scoops hifi lite as he liked it, out at grass in the day but not eating much hay at night - he is back in light work this week and have put him in topspec feed balancer but his energy levels have increased significantly - he is a 12.2 dartmoor and we want to do first riddens so he cant be to fizzy -any ideas how to gain condition but not put him at risk of sugar intolerance/ laminitis, thanks

Another vote for LoCal, seems there are people that have trouble with TopSpec affecting their horses and ponies by making them a bit fizzy.

You should try winergy equilibrium growth. i use it on my mare who ties up. it has no cereal starch so would be safe for a lami prone pony but is very conditioning. Also, it's fibre based so if she likes hifi she should definitely like growth.

call them, they're really helpful 01908 576 277 or you can email them on winergy.equilibrium@effem-equine.com
