Hi, I'm currently feeding my squitty Arab with ulcers fibre beet, conditioning fibre and micronised linseed. (One big scoop of each and one measuring cup linseed as he has adlib hay and not in work just now and weight is ok)

He seems to be doing ok on this but wondered if anyone had any advice re what I'm feeding to try and reduce the squitiness even more? Have had veterinary advice about it but the general opinion from them is that some horses are just like this in the winter - his backend is completely dry as soon as the grass comes back in. I know the grass is starting to die off as soon as he gets the runs again!

Any advice on this would be much appreciated!

Some times micronised linseed can cause squitty poo, it may be worth seeing if this is making it worse.

He's been on it for a while now and certainly not noticed it getting any worse. This only happens through the winter and he is better this winter than the last few. Last few years he was on speedi beet and Alfa a oil, cutting those out seems to have helped!

My ulcery mare can't cope with micronised linseed - but she's fine on copra.

Some hay will set her off too and haylage is an absolute no-no. I suspect some batches are too rich but our hay supply is too irregular to send off for testing.

Protexin quickfix is good when she gets bad. I use a tube over 3 days and it sorts her system out.

Ulsakind have transformed my ulcer pony who is very prone to colic & sloppy poo!
He now has a handful of grass chaff, cup of balancer and ulsakind cubes alongside adlib (dry'ish) haylage. His poo's are neat balls and he's very happy and well!
He's always struggled with appetite and is VERY fussy but he wolfs his dinner and then tucks into his haylage now.
