...with a twist!

Connie x 7yo mare, well covered (lives on thin air!)

She's out on grass during the day, in at night with ad lib haylage and gets a hard feed of small level scoop of HiFi Do-er and half a scoop of Speedi-Beet to mix in her supplements.

She's not fat, but is nevertheless well covered! She's dropped quite a bit of weight as she's being worked a lot more now, especially in the school. I feel she could do with an energy boost, but don't want to pile on the pounds.

Swap the speedi-beet for sugar beet maybe?

Nope don't swap the speedi-beet for sugar beet!

Sounds like she hasn't got the energy you want because she's either not fit enough and or she's overweight, have you condition scored her? You need to be able to feel the ribs when you run your hand along.

Most horses will naturally have more energy when they lose a few pounds!

I would also swap the haylage for soaked hay

calories = energy and if you put more in than she uses up she'll get fat.

Agree with above - my share horse has loads more enerygy now he's slimmed down and got fitter :)

She's slimmed down loads compared to what she was. Ribs can be felt. Seems the fitter and slimmer she's getting the less energy she has! Doesn't make sense hence why i'm thinking lack of energy, change feed?! She's worked 4 times a week. She's never fizzy or silly (unless cantering behind - then she's mad as a hatter!)

You could try Spillers Instant Energy mix then, I used to feed my ex pony this as he was so laid back! It did work, but just have to watch the waistline and make sure you feed for workload!
