Feeding for extra oomph

You cant put in what God left out. If he is porky thats probably the reason he maybe a bit lethargic. [lean and mean]

no thats is not the case at all thankyou very much, he is usually sharp as a razor but due to being out at night coz of this weather he is far to chilled out, in future dont be so bloody rude and if your not gonna be helpful dont comment on my posts at all!!
and oh yes 'god' has nothing to do with anything seeing as he does not exist!

Never fed it muself, but a couple of people at the yard swear by the NAF Ener-G supplement - it has had full page adverts in H&H of late - maybe give them a ring?

You could feed a bit of competetion mix but only feed this when the energy is going to be used up ie 2 hours before you ride. Otherwise the unused calories will be laid down as fat.

What are you feeding at the moment?

if hes normally very sparkley i would just be extra careful he isnt feeling his joints a little at that age.....
i feed my 7 year old instant energy competition mix an hour or so before riding- shes also a good doer but hasnt put on any extra with this and it does definately seem to have helped!

He's currently on 16+ and applechaff, with cod liver oil and equvite being added for his joints etc, over the winter he struggled keeping weight on which is i put him on 16+ last summer he was on D&H Comp mix, but as we're not doing as much this year i didn't want to put him on something to blow his mind, i've also ordered a bag of dengie hifi good-doer as a partial hay replacer, I've never had an problems with health/soundness with him and i'm hoping i can keep it that way, :D

The feed you are currently feeding is full of sugar; could be the cause of him feeling lethargic.

If you want more energy, then first get his weight down if, as you say he's porky, then feed according to the work he's doing. Feeding oil is a good choice for energy.

He doesnt need to loose weight at all he just doesn't need to gain any either. and 16+ is not full of sugar at all after speaking to spillers today i have a plan of action and i'd much rather take their advice than anyone else's so thanks but its sorted so i dont need anymore oppinions

Erm you said he was porky?!

If you don't want advise then don't do a post asking for it....simples

And yes the Apple Chaff is 18% sugar!!, I have a 19 year old and is only fed Fast Fibre with some oil added.
