What's he fed at the moment?

A handful of hifi with his supplements, he doesnt need hard feed for condition, but does need a bit more energy

Hi Seaslug I've always thought your Lance is a bit like my Ryu in looks, perhaps in temperament too if hes laid back, Ryu is a very good doer he gets hay, a scoop of hi fi with a handful of nuts and some rolled oats, last winter I fed up to a scoop of oats between his 2 feeds to give him a little oomph, I aslo feed pink powder as a balancer so he gets all his vits, TBH he didn't turn into a race horse but he did sustain what engery he had for longer so might be worth a try, cheap too.

Thanks Baileysno1, I was suggested outs but was worried about weight gain, but I cant find anything else around that has that much energy without all the calories of a mix.

Thanks Amymay, I tried alfa oil and he just put weight on, no more energy really.

He is such a pig and is like the equivilent of a woman who looks at a cream cake and puts on a stone!

Most of the heating feeds I can find are also aimed at adding condition too though, which he doesnt need.

Try adding something like Spillers instant response competition mix, and maybe drop his hi-fi to hi-fi lite if you're worried about him gaining weight.
Or just add some nuts to his current feed as amymay has suggested and see how he goes.

I know nupafeed do a booster - similar to their calmer. Didn't make a huge difference on Chancer - I was trying to get some omph for in hand showing, but other said it did give them a pick up for competitions.

Also tried Simple Systems grass nuts - red bag version - used for race horses and have more energy than oats. Again not a huge change to Chancer in hand - but he was more lively when ridden and did have more energy - not that he does that much yet under the saddle.

I know that feeding red cell can be the equivalent of rocket fuel.

Trouble is, as you say, giving anything like nuts is calories that can go to his waistline. A friend of mine feeds Lo-Cal balancer plus a bit of Hi-Fi Lite to make sure her horse gets all he needs but it doesn't contain any calories. He perked up no end once he was on this and now he's even lost a bit of weight because she can work him more easily.

is he clipped? I felt that Daisy was a bit sluggish last year and was thinking about changin her feeds, the difference that clipping made was enormous. She hadn't been particularly sweaty but was clearly not exerting herself to the full as she didn't want to get too hot
