So the mare of many injuries will be coming home on Tuesday after her N+F on both hind suspensories.

Competitive career is very definitely behind her, but would be over the moon if we could get her right enough to hack out and potter around gently.

Rehab will be to the letter as much as she will allow, box rest followed by controlled walking in hand etc but in the spirit of maximising every chance, I’m now looking at nutritional support for convalescence and recovery.

Thoughts at the moment are along the lines of alfalfa chaff, pink mash, a high spec balancer and linseed.
All suggestions on feeding for healing are welcome please!

If it were me I’d start with balancer and chaff and lots of forage dotted around. Maybe grass chaff for her to pick at? Most important is that she keeps her gut moving while stood in. If she loses condition linseed is good as it’s fat based energy so slow release, so won’t encourage silliness, but be careful of quantity as can pack weigh on easily :)

My mare is just coming off box rest and I have had great success with Keyflow Pink Mash, Golden Oldies (not just for horses over 15) and hifi, I also made my own mix of various herbs for liver, kidneys, inflammation etc just to make sure all bases were covered. She was very chill on this mix
