I want to put my mare on something to help her tendons and joints, I have been meaning to put her on a joint supplement for a while to see if it will help with her stiffness while she's on box rest, but now she's been diagnosed with a torn tendon I have been researching things I can do to help that and MSM seems to come up a lot... has anyone fed MSM for joints and/or tendons? Have the results been good? Are there any other things tendons specifically need that anyone knows of? I would ask my vet but he's useless...

Global do a specific tendon supplement and an old instructor of mine swore by any global products. Never tried it myself so can't be more specific but if you google global supplements the details are on their website.

use feedmark ha , i use it on my horse with big movement and for the other ex-eventer who has a severe blown tendon and the vet was surprised by his recovery rate! I rate the stuff as i do think it is great! worth every penny!

My friends horse is 23 and has torn a tendon she has him on MSM, not sure if that is what is helping but he seems to be doing very well on it and looks almost sound in the walk and has certainly got more sprightly since he has been on it!? She is using the Global Herbs one.

Is the Global Herbs stuff she is using the MSM or the Tendoneaze? I was looking at that today but it doesn't say on the website what it has in it which I would want to know before I bought any (expensive at £20 a tub that lasts about 20 days!)
I started her on Superflex tonight but if this Tendoneaze stuff or even plain MSM would help I might look into it a bit more.
Not sure I want her more sprightly though??! Especially as I'm walking her in-hand every day and she was rearing last night!

Nooooooooooooooo! There is some evidence that joint supplements have some benefit for joints provided the concentration of certain active ingredients is high enough in the product you buy. Tendons, no way. Your best bet is to make sure your ned has a healthy exercise regime and is fed a balanced diet. Believe it or not the point of a digestive system is to break down foodstuffs and reassemble the chemicals required to maintain the body in the amounts required at that time. This is very clever stuff, its evolved over millions of years and we don't even understand how it works in much detail - but it does or there would be no animals.

If I was digestive system, which I'm not I hasten to add, I'd get very fed up if the organism I was in (or it's owner) kept unbalancing my diet with supplementation on the whim that they were somehow helping...
