have acquired a 23/24 yr old welsh x arab, think small tb shape. he was on poor grazing with no hard food or hay, not neglected just not cherished really. he is much thinner than i would like
he is a ridden horse, very sensitive and could be sharp i think so whilst i want to build him up, dont want to send him off his trolley
currently have him on reasonable grass, in for 6 hrs a day with adlib hay
feeding calm and condition, alfaa oil and pink powder, plus some conditioning cubes and pink powder, have ordered some equijewel
Any thoughts?
Have been recomended Myoplast but not looking to produce a super athlete really

I was going to suggest Calm & Condition! But you're already ahead of me. :)

You seem to have him on quite a few different feeds and I'd be wary of mixing and matching too much. Best to decide on one main conditioning product and stick to the recommendations for that one, plus AlfaA Oil to keep the ration 'open'. Adding something like Equijewel, ground linseed meal or Outshine for a month or so may give him a boost if you really feel he needs it. But I expect he'll pick up no end just by being on better grazing, having ad-lib hay at night and regular small feeds. Giving a course of Pink Powders wont do any harm either.

As for investing in Equitop Myoplast, really, don't bother! They're expensive and I've been using them (won in a competition back along) and haven't noticed a great difference (if any) plus my horse HATES them. Finish the course of Pink Powders and see how he's looking in a month's time. I bet he'll be looking much better. :)

Take some photos now if you can. Then you'll have something to compare with down the line.

I would suggest contacting the Pure Feeds company and putting him on one of their complete feeds, much easier than messing around with all different types of feed. Honestly the most effective feed to put on weight....other than that all i can suggest is making sure he isnt stressed out!

The new Allen and Page Veteren Vitality has had a lot of good reports.

It's mollasses and cereal free, and is in pellet form, containing a little unmollased sugar beat, so it can be soaked down to form an easy to chew mash.

I feed my mare (18yo arab) unmolassed and alfafree food as shes gets fizzy. I can't feed her calm and condition or alfa a oil.

I feed her Graze On, just freeze dried grass
Allen and Page Old Faithfuls Special Blend (a mix for old horses, it encourages her to eat as she's fussy)
and Speedibeet when necessary (mainly in winter) and it's puts her weight on like a treat. Even when in full work!

I've just started my lad on Pure Condition from Pure Feeds...and well I'm having to feed less than half the recommended amount cos it most definately does what it says on the tin!!!! He's put on 10kg in 2 weeks and loves the feed!! It's fabulous and all the stupid spooky nonsence I was getting when he was Calm and Condition has gone!!! I'm ordering their Working feed next time cos the conditioning one is obviously far too good for him!!!:D
