Feeding hay from field ideas - also how is TB looking? *PICS* B4 & After

What do you use for putting hay in out in the field throughout winter?
Last 2 years i have just put it out as it is but theres always so much waste!!

Thought about putting haylage nets up but may worry about them getting caught in them?? (or am i just being over-cautious?!) what are hay bags like?

Ordering my hay in this weekend so need some ideas :)

On another note how is my TB looking? she seems to be doing well so far living out 24/7 rugged up and well fed. Just getting through the last of the grass this week then she will have hay.

Funny enough just found a few pics of her from October 31st 2009!! just for comparasions (she was just over 4 here and had a bad time through colic so looking poor. she was then stabled that winter and didn't put weight on till the following summer despite ad lib hay and 3 feeds per day.

Then end of summer 10 she put on the weight, had a good winter 2010 and had a fab summer this year, growing a good inch in the process and really filled out. (She was turned away may this year diagnosed with spinal arthritus at 6 - plan is to bring her back into work late spring next year under vets supervision)

No ideas for hay although just made our own hay bar for stable! As for condition I'm no expert but she looks to have a good belly on her for going into winter although obviouslyLacking muscle but would be expected! Hope next year brings you luck

Just started her on sunflower oil last week, slowly increasing it. :)

Am hoping now shes a bit bigger, older and had a good summer that she will cope this winter living out, we have had some very cold nights lately so am pleased shes not shedding the weight!

Re hay wastage, I've heard very good things about Hay Hutches. You put the hay inside them and move them around the field to avoid poaching. The wastage is minimal because the hay isn't on the ground. I would love to have one but they're quite expensive (over £100) so I might need to find a different solution. Definitely worth googling them to see if they would be suitable for you though.

Yes am hearing good things about the hay hutches, they are expensive though - £150 for the one i would need.
I suppose if there strong enough to get lots of winters out of them then they maybe worth it............
 
I've got a plasterer's bath (Plastic water trough!) that I put hay in when it's windy. It has a hole in, so not suitable for water anymore. It's also useful for snowy conditions, when I put lots of Hi-Fi in it (and use haynets for the hay).
