I know you cant feed your horse a hard feed before and after riding for at least and hour... but can they eat hay directly before and after as i was told that i couldnt the other day as it will cause colic but i know that most the riding schools i have been to do do that ! so can i feed him hay before.

I've ridden after a small hard feed, just gentle hack but still ridden. I've brought him in from the field and ridden and I usually give him a net while I'm getting ready. Never had any problems. I think providing you are not giving a large hard feed followed by heavy work you will be absolutely fine

I would imagine hay would be fine as it is fibre - after all horses are designed to be able to eat grass one moment and then gallop off if they thing a predator is coming without getting colic.

yeah my boy can have done a few hours of hard work or competing and then he gets his drink and his haynet tbh i dont usually leave him an hour before i feed i just wait untill he is cool enough there are people at my yard who don't wait at all its they either feed them straight away or they dont get fed
