I have moved yard my friend use to feed my boy so didn't have to go down all the time now weve moved how often do you feed he has loads of grass he used to get small feed in the morning then hard feed and haylage in the evening could I nock the small feed in the morning off !! he hunts twice a week and is good dooer (cob). thanks.

If he has the energy to do the work and as you say is a good doer then I see no need to feed anything other than grass and haylage plus a token feed of a fibre based chaff and either a mulit vitamin or a balancer. Is he over weight atm?

Hi he is fit and not fat ! his night feed is chaff mix and top spec, thanks.

I don't feed anything. Just hay, sometimes a couple of handfuls of grass nuts after work; without loss of condition and they all work. They do have plenty of grass though. I only feed the hay so I can check them in the morning and evening.

What is in the small morning feed he is getting at the moment? Although he might not need it from a nutritional point of view at the moment, presumably it gives you the opportunity to check him over, which should be done twice daily.

From a nutritional point of view, if he is not hunting yet and the grass is good and his condition and energy levels are ideal, then he probably doesn't need two feeds a day. However, further into the winter when he is hunting twice a week and the grass has diminished you might find that he does need the extra meal - you will have to play it by ear!

This - exactly.

Plus of course there is the hay element to think off, fed either ad lib or dished out to the horses twice a day once winter comes.
