Feeding multiple horses in the field

I have six electric tape pens with a channel through the middle of them that I can clip off or leave open.

I feed everyone separately so that I can be sure who is getting what supplement, and so that I can have freelancers feed them easily without worrying about anyone getting silly about food and getting kicked.

It works really well for us.

I wanted to say thank you for all your suggestions. I have gone with a pen for the Old Lady for now (on the left). The others switch between bowls for now and don't even always finish. They just wanted Old Lady's tastier food! There is space above the pen to build 3 more in time, but I'll need more materials for it. First I need to build a pen in the other field as I will move them at the weekend.20251018_090434.jpg

Nice! I find even feeding hay in field can cause scrapping and its rare they won't argue about bucket feed. So if feed where they can't get to each others food as it's too risky for injuries . Above sounds like a good first step

I have no real worries about injuries. Little Madam rules with an iron fist (hoof?) and the others get out of the way pronto if she so much as pulls a face at them. Well except Pippin, but he's her first born son and can get away with murder for now as far as she's concerned!
The main issue was that Old Lady wasn't getting the benefit of her feed.

Perfect! this is what I had to do with my food aggressive cob, he was the one that needed the feed but spent all his time chasing off anyone that looked at his bucket.

I've resorted to treat balls in the field now. It slows the feeding down so they aren't running from bucket to bucket grabbing a mouthful and there are fewer arguments.

I just pull the one that needs feeding out for a bucket once most of the treat balls are finished. He comes to call and the greedy ones are still searching for left overs. gives his fast fibre enough time to soak and me time to sort everything out(wander round wondering what I'm doing, who I am or what my name is LOL).

You've now got me wondering if a treat ball would keep my foal entertained for a bit... Do you have one per horse in the field?
Also, all my fields are on a hill, if I get some treat balls, I've the horrible feeling I will spend a lot of time trudging down the hill to collect and refill them.

Yes one for each horse.

I'm on a slight slope. They don't tend to roll off unless it's really windy or a sheep runs off with one.
