Hi,
My horse is turned out most of the day and does almost no work 3-4 days a week. However, on Friday I do around two hours work, (one hour hard hacking with galloping and one hour jumping in an arena). I train him for endurance. On Saturday and Sunday I do a hard 3 hour hack and 1-2 hours in the arena.
I have read that I need to feed him 2.5% of his weight, the disribution of this amount between concentrated feed and forage is dependant on whether he does hard work, medium work, or light work. But this is where I am confused. He only does I would say medium work on Fridays and hard work on the weekends. Thus, would I feed him according to the day? For example, I would feed him more forage on the weekdays, say 80% forage 20% concentrated feed, and on the weekends and on fridays would i give him 60% forage and 40% concentrated feed? Would this upset his digestive system? Is it better to have the same feeding routine every day? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!
