I've just bought a 6 year old irish sports horse but i'm not sure what feed to give him. My pony is on safe and sound, and my other horse has sugar beet, baileys topline mix, and alfa-a oil.

I was going to give him the same as my other horse but i've seen a few people saying that alfa-a can make some horses silly and obviously i don't want that with a horse i've just bough

(my new horse needs to gain topline and bit of weight as well)

What do people think, I have no problem getting a different feed for him if I need to?

If he were mine I'd be giving him as much hay/haylage as he wanted and probably chaff + sugarbeet. Plenty of good quality forage is the best thing to get weight on most horses and it's sensible to keep any concentrates fairly simple until you know him a little better. Topline will improve with correct work - lots of work on hills out hacking will do him good. Hope this helps. Good luck with him.
